roofing scammers and door to door knockers.

1. scam artists(Predators) red flags.  Storm chasers.

These guys I would like to shoot, they take advantage of trusting people. Turn them away if they ask for money up front.(Never ever pay up front for anything).  Never ever sign a blank contract.
Do not hire a contractor with out of state tags, or magnetic signs on there truck, or if they are missing teeth. have an old broken down vehicle. These are signs they can barely make it doing what they do.

Personally I would only work with the owner of the company.  The bigger companies have sales reps that have to earn a commission so add deduct 10 to 15% from the bid because that's what they get. I beleive the companies that have to advertise on billboards and in the yellow pages with full page adds are trying to make themselves look like they are the best. when in actuality most  90% of the public look online and research a company through the internet. If you need work done and need to hire a contractor. I would pay the few dollars to join Angie's list. It's worth it to get real opinions from real customers. Check the BBB as well. Research them check with the court documents to see if they have been sued or have a bankruptcy. Spending time before you put your autograph on a contract could save you from a very bad experience.

2. Door knockers.   your eating dinner with your family and somebody knocks on the door and says "Hi I am in the neighborhood and noticed your roof has some damage or looks old would you like a free estimate."   I would say no! unsolicited door knockers are begging for business and are the same as door to door magazine salesmen. they will waste your time and feed you some bull.

We do not do that. We don't have to our customers call us because of our reputation.  Just yesterday, a client called us said he had a small leak. we found it fixed it with a $4 dollar tube of caulk. did it for free! any other company would have charge a minimum of $250 to $400 dollars just to come out.  That's just robbery to me.  The client knows and will tell everyone he know if they have a problem call us.  That's just the right thing to do and that's how you get referrals and more business. not billboards.  Granted name recognition is important but that's $2000 to $5000 a month that they have to pay for and makes the have to charge more.

So next time you need any work done from a swimming pool to a new roof check out the smaller companies talk to your friends who have had work done and see how the work went if they got a good price and we satisfied with the work and the workers.

I hope this helps

I Hope this info helps.
